Threat Management Program and Training Development
The
following are WTS's services for employer violence prevention and threat
management program development and training. Consultations, orientations,
or training may be designed according to our client's needs, requirements,
and established experience.
PROGRAM
AND PRE-TRAINING DEVELOPMENT
Help
in starting or improving a client's threat management program, assessing
the organization's needs, and tailoring components to fit client's requirements
Description: Initial program consultation meetings between WTS
consultant and key program contact(s) to obtain knowledge of client
organization pertinent to violence potential and threat management issues.
In addition, for WTS to present to key contact(s) brief overview
of nature of workplace grudge/targeted violence, leading to ingredients
and steps for effective prevention. Included is review of client
violence-related policy, buy-in steps from senior management and other
key stakeholders, composition of threat team; discussion of contents
and structure of various training and employee communication components,
case notification and screening procedures, overview of legal and security
issues and resources, plan for training and review of and selection
of training materials. Final editing and preparation of any client-specific
training materials. Meetings usually include at least one WTS
visit to client site and other necessary telephone consultations or
communication.
THREAT
MANAGEMENT PROGRAM & CASE RESPONSE ORIENTATION FOR HUMAN RESOURCE, LEGAL,
AND SECURITY MANAGERS
A
focused overview of workplace violence and effective threat management
principles for stakeholders
Description:
One and a half to two hour session on initial orientation to understanding
workplace grudge/targeted violence; counterproductive responses; warning
signs and triggering contexts; building or improving a company program,
policy, team and managers' responsibilities; role of outside specialists;
basics of effective case response protocol; over-coming organizational
barriers; case examples or brief case vignette practice. This
is intended for staff managers considering a program start-up or seeking
basic prevention information.
THREAT
MANAGEMENT TEAM TRAINING
Details
of threat management for teams, emphasizing case vignette practice and
learning from actual incidents, use of screening and assessment instruments
and multi-disciplinary response options - all toward the goal of increased
team effectiveness and efficiency
Description:
half or full day training sessions (start-up and beyond) for multi-disciplinary
threat team members. Content includes specific topics related
to understanding and preventing workplace grudge/targeted violence;
categories of threateners; motives, issues, and contexts leading to
violence; warning signs; counterproductive responses; multidisciplinary
prevention model; case intake and screening methods; use of WTS Assessment
and Response Grids; working effectively with external specialists in
assessment, security, and legal. Case vignette and interactive
learning approaches are emphasized, to enhance team building and realistic
case management experiences. Active participation by the designated
internal resources in security, legal, and human resources is encouraged.
Conclude with discussion of implications of training experience
for further program development actions by team.
SUPERVISOR
TRAINING IN WORKPLACE VIOLENCE PREVENTION
Essentials
for busy managers on what to look for, do's and don'ts, and how to work
with your team - delivered by our experts co-presenting with your team
representative(s)
Description: One and a half to two hour training sessions for
line managers, led by WTS consultant and co-led by one of your designated
threat management team representative(s). Content includes managers'
version of understanding workplace grudge/targeted violence; counterproductive
responses; warning signs; company policy and managers' responsibilities;
basics of case response protocol; case examples or brief case vignette
practice. WTS PowerPoint or overhead format for presentations,
to include participant handouts.
TRAIN
THE TRAINERS MATERIALS, TRAINING, AND SUPPORT FOR INTERNAL SUPERVISORS'
TRAINING
Increasing
your program efficiencies by building your in-house training expertise
Description:
Provision of WTS produced train-the-trainers materials, including "speaker's
notes", for use by team members conducting internal supervisors' training
on workplace violence prevention. In addition, WTS consultant
training of internal trainers. Topics include review of and Q&A
regarding training material, do's and don'ts of training with this topic,
and other issues appropriate to particular trainers. Includes
at least one half-day site visit for train-the-trainer session (with
all trainers, up to 25 total), and ongoing telephonic support and progress
review for trainers through training start-up period. Additional
training and/or consultation beyond start-up is available.
EMPLOYEE
ORIENTATION MATERIALS AND EDUCATION SUPPORT
Providing
clients materials for appropriate employee education
Description:
Provision of WTS violence prevention employee orientation materials
for in-house use of team members for employee training, company websites,
brochures, etc.; content or delivery consultation with trainers or team
members. Materials content includes examples of and facts about
workplace violence, policy and protocol for responding to concerns,
expectations and safeguards for employees, employee do's and don'ts,
reporting contacts.

BRIEFING
A
focused, informative presentation by experts for your senior management
committee, tailored to fit client needs and culture
Description:
WTS consultant participation with team member(s) at employer senior
management meeting for overview of workplace violence issues, prevention,
program explanation, and Q&A. Includes executive briefing PowerPoint
presentation.
